Where to eat in Vienna

- Figlmüller — Schnitzel, Innere Stadt (2). Order the Figlmüller schnitzel. The plate-overhanging schnitzel since 1905.
- Schweizerhaus — Beer garden, Prater (2). Order the Hintere Schweinsstelze. Stelze and Budweiser Budvar under the chestnuts since 1920.
- Café Central — Kaffeehaus, Innere Stadt (2). Order the Melange + apfelstrudel. Trotsky's café under cathedral vaults — order the melange and linger.
- Bitzinger Würstelstand Albertina — Sausage stand, Albertinaplatz (1). Order the Käsekrainer + Ottakringer. Opera-goers and cab drivers side by side at 1am.
- Café Hawelka — Kaffeehaus, Innere Stadt (1). Order the Buchteln + kleiner Brauner. Smoky-boho legend of the 1950s; buchteln arrive after 10pm.
- Trześniewski — Open sandwiches, Innere Stadt (1). Order the Ei mit Gurke + Pfiff. One-bite spread sandwiches and a Pfiff of beer, since 1902.
- Plachutta Wollzeile — Viennese, Innere Stadt (3). Order the Tafelspitz. Tafelspitz served in copper pots, marrow bone first.
- Café Sperl — Kaffeehaus, Mariahilf (1). Order the Sperl torte + billiards. Unrestored 1880 interior — the most honest kaffeehaus in town.
